Every bottle of Zero Lines carries ingredients that have travelled nearly 200 kilometres — from springs high in the Andorran Pyrenees to our formulation laboratory in Barcelona. That journey isn't just logistics. It's the defining feature of what makes these products different.

The Source: 1,800 Metres Above Sea Level

Our primary mineral water source emerges at 1,834 metres, in a protected valley where no agriculture, no industry, and no permanent settlement exists within a 5-kilometre radius. The water has spent an estimated 18–22 years underground, percolating through granite and limestone, dissolving minerals, and emerging cold, pure, and mineral-rich.

We collect it not by pumping — which can disturb aquifer pressure and alter mineral equilibrium — but by gravity-fed channels that have been in place for decades. The flow rate is monitored continuously to ensure we're never extracting more than the natural recharge rate.

The Journey: Cold Chain from Mountain to Lab

Within six hours of collection, the water is transferred to insulated stainless steel tankers maintained at 4°C. It travels 185 kilometres to our Barcelona facility, arriving within 48 hours of leaving the spring.

This cold chain matters. Warm water loses dissolved gases and can precipitate minerals. By keeping the water cold throughout transport, we preserve the exact mineral profile that makes it effective for skincare.

Barcelona: Where Geography Meets Craft

We chose Barcelona as our manufacturing base for reasons that go beyond convenience. The city's pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturing heritage dates back to the 19th century. Its port provides access to marine ingredients from the Mediterranean. And its regulatory environment — governed by both Spanish and EU cosmetic directives — ensures the highest standards of safety and transparency.

Our laboratory in the Poblenou district occupies a converted textile warehouse — a nod to Barcelona's industrial past repurposed for its scientific future. Inside, the facility operates to pharmaceutical-grade standards: HEPA-filtered air, positive-pressure clean rooms, and full batch traceability from raw material to finished product.

Beyond Water: Alpine Botanicals

The Pyrenean connection extends beyond mineral water. Several of our key botanical ingredients are sourced from the same mountain ecosystem:

• Edelweiss extract: Harvested from cultivated Alpine gardens at 1,500 metres, this flower has evolved potent antioxidant compounds to survive extreme UV at altitude. We use it in our serum for its free radical-scavenging properties.
• Gentian root: A bitter root used in traditional Pyrenean medicine for centuries, now validated by modern research for its anti-inflammatory and barrier-supporting compounds.
• Lavender floral water: While not from the Pyrenees specifically, our lavender hydrosol comes from organic fields in the Provence Alps, processed using traditional steam distillation.

The Craft of Formulation

Raw ingredients are only the beginning. The art of formulation lies in combining them so they work together rather than against each other. This is where our four years of development becomes visible.

Each Zero Lines product went through between 40 and 80 iterations before reaching its final form. The variables were endless: pH, viscosity, emulsion stability, skin feel, absorption rate, compatibility with other products in the protocol, and shelf life under various temperature conditions.

Quality Control: From Batch to Bottle

Every batch of Zero Lines product undergoes rigorous quality control before release. This includes microbiological testing, stability testing at accelerated temperatures, pH verification, viscosity measurement, and sensory evaluation by trained panelists.

But we go further than standard cosmetic QC. We also test every batch for mineral content consistency — ensuring that the calcium, magnesium, and silica levels in the water base match our specifications within 2%. We test peptide integrity using HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) to confirm that our signal peptides haven't degraded during formulation. And we conduct in-vitro cell culture assays to verify that each batch maintains the bioactivity demonstrated in our original research.

The Packaging Decision

Packaging isn't an afterthought — it's part of the product. Airless pumps prevent oxidation of sensitive actives like peptides and antioxidants. Opaque containers protect light-sensitive ingredients from UV degradation. And our glass bottles are fully recyclable, with labels printed using soy-based inks.
